Maintaining a White Smile

Do you wish your teeth were a little whiter? Aging and stains from foods, beverages, and tobacco products can all make it challenging to maintain a bright, white smile. Fortunately, cosmetic dentistry services and treatments offered by your dentists at CenterCare Dental Group in Phoenix, AZ, can improve the appearance of your smile.

Ways to Brighten Your Smile

These five tips can help you brighten your smile:

  • Stay Away from the Dark Stuff: Some foods and beverages deposit dark pigments in the microscopic pores in your tooth enamel. Coffee, tea, red wine, cola, dark berries, candy, sports drinks, and soy sauce are common culprits. Limiting these foods and beverages can help you reduce stains.
  • Use a Straw: Staying away from coffee and tea isn’t practical for many people who rely on caffeine to start their days. Luckily, you can reduce stains on your teeth from these beverages simply by using a straw.
  • Try Whitening Products: Whitening toothpaste may help reduce stains on your teeth, but it probably won’t lighten your smile dramatically. Over-the-counter whiteners can be helpful but can take a long time to work or might not produce the desired results.
  • Give Professional Whitening a Try: Your Phoenix dentists can help you get rid of dental stains in just about an hour with professional teeth whitening. Your dentists use a whitening gel that contains higher formulations of hydrogen peroxide than over-the-counter whiteners for more impressive results. Hydrogen peroxide breaks apart and removes stain-causing pigments, whitening your teeth by three to eight shades. Your results will last several years but can be extended if you avoid foods and beverages that contain dark pigments.
  • Cover Stains with Dental Veneers: Veneers are the cosmetic dentistry solution that both famous and not-so-famous people turn to improve the whiteness of their smiles. The thin, tooth-shaped plastic or porcelain shells are affixed to your teeth with dental cement. Veneer preparation is minimal and may only require removal of a tiny amount of tooth enamel in some cases. Veneers are stain-resistant and available in nearly any shade of white imaginable. With proper care, your veneers can last 15 to 20 years or longer.

Francisco Lindor

At the first-ever Players Weekend in August 2017, Major League Baseball players wore jerseys with their nicknames on the back. One player — Cleveland Indians shortstop, Francisco Lindor — picked the perfect moniker to express his cheerful, fun-loving nature: “Mr. Smile.” And Lindor gave fans plenty to smile about when he belted a 2-run homer into the stands while wearing his new jersey!

Lindor has explained that he believes smiling is an important part of connecting with fans and teammates alike: “I’ve never been a fan of the guy that makes a great play and then acts like he’s done it 10,000 times — smile, man! We’ve got to enjoy the game.”

We think Lindor is right: Smiling is a great way to generate good will. And it feels great too… as long as you have a smile that’s healthy, and that looks as good as you want it to. But what if you don’t? Here are some things we can do at the dental office to help you enjoy smiling again:

Routine Professional Cleanings & Exams. This is a great place to start on the road toward a healthy, beautiful smile. Even if you are conscientious about brushing and flossing at home, you won’t be able to remove all of the disease-causing dental plaque that can hide beneath the gum line, especially if it has hardened into tartar, but we can do it easily in the office. Then, after a thorough dental exam, we can identify any problems that may be affecting your ability to smile freely, such as tooth decay, gum disease, or cosmetic dental issues.

Cosmetic Dental Treatments. If your oral health is good but your smile is not as bright as you’d like it to be, we can discuss a number of cosmetic dental treatments that can help. These range from conservative procedures such as professional teeth whitening and bonding to more dramatic procedures like porcelain veneers or crowns.

Tooth Replacement. Many people hide their smiles because they are embarrassed by a gap from a missing tooth. That’s a shame, because there are several excellent tooth-replacement options in a variety of price ranges. These include partial and full dentures, bridgework, and dental implants. So don’t let a missing tooth stop you from being Mr. (or Ms.) Smile!

It’s amazing how one flaw in our smile can affect not just our appearance, but our confidence as well. If you find that you aren’t smiling that much because you hate that gap between your front teeth or because your teeth are yellow and stained, it’s time to turn to our Phoenix, AZ, cosmetic dentists Dr. Linda Beguin and Dr. Gary Steen.

What We Provide

We are proud to offer these top cosmetic treatments,

  • Dental bonding
  • Tooth reshaping
  • Gum contouring
  • Teeth whitening
  • Dental veneers
  • Dental implants
  • Invisalign

The goal of cosmetic dentistry is to be able to enhance your smile’s aesthetic appeal through altering the shape, length, size, or straightness of your teeth. After all, just one misshapen tooth can truly impact your whole smile!

Of course, we know that some people are worried that cosmetic dentistry is invasive or time-consuming, but the treatment (or treatments) that are right for you will directly accommodate these concerns. But first, our Phoenix dentist will need to examine your teeth and gums to make sure your smile is healthy enough for cosmetic dentistry.

From there, we will discuss what your goals are for cosmetic dentistry. This is your time to tell us what really bothers you about your smile and what you wish to change. It’s important to be upfront but also realistic about the results you wish to achieve, as this will also help us create the best treatment plan for you.

A Treatment For Your Needs

Not sure which option is the right one for you? Don’t worry—we can help you with that. Of course, there are some treatments that will work better than others depending on what problems you want to improve through cosmetic dentistry.

Want a whiter smile? Most of the time, professional teeth whitening will give you the results you want; however, internal stains won’t respond to whitening but can easily be covered by dental bonding or a dental veneer, depending on the size of the stain.

Looking to make minor tweaks to your smile without having to undergo tooth preparation, anesthesia, or needles? Many of the treatment options we offer are non-invasive or minimally invasive. Any questions or concerns you might have about the treatment process we would be more than happy to discuss with you.

Cosmetic dentistry is helping countless patients feel more confident smiling. Are you ready to find out how it could help you? If so, call (602) 671-3956 to schedule a consultation with CenterCare Dental Group in Phoenix. We’ll give you something to smile about!

Dental Crowns

Do you have a damaged tooth? A dental crown will not only restore its appearance but also improve the tooth’s function. Phoenix, AZ, dentists Drs. Linda Beguin and Gary Steen of CenterCare Dental Group help you and your family maintain healthy, attractive smiles with a range of dental treatments and regular checkups.

What are crowns?

Crowns are hollow restorations placed on top of teeth. Before you receive a crown, your tooth must be reduced in size to ensure that the restoration fits properly. In the past, porcelain or porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns were the primary options. Although these crowns are effective, they require a two-appointment process, a temporary crown and the services of a dental laboratory to create the crown.

CEREC crowns, the newest crown option, are created while you wait at your Phoenix dentist’s office. Your dentist uses an intraoral scanner to make a digital impression of your mouth, designs the crown using CAD/CAM software, then sends it to an in-office milling machine that creates the restoration from a block of ceramic or resin. You only need one appointment when you opt for a CEREC crown and don’t need to wear a temporary crown.

How can a crown help me?

Crowns are often used to restore teeth that have broken or fractured due to trauma, accidents and falls. Broken teeth can cut your lips and mouth, make chewing and biting difficult, and cause tooth pain. Adding a crown to the tooth restores its height and width, enhancing your appearance and your ability to enjoy meals.

The restorations help prevent fractures and breaks when they’re added to cracked teeth. They may also be recommended if your teeth are brittle, fragile or weak. Weakening can occur due to certain dental procedures, such as large fillings or root canal therapy, but can occur as a normal part of aging.

Crowns are a good choice if certain cosmetic issues detract from your appearance. Your dentist may suggest them if you have a discolored tooth or want to change the shape or length of a tooth.

Restore and preserve your healthy smile with dental crowns! Call Phoenix, AZ, dentists Drs. Linda Beguin and Gary Steen of CenterCare Dental Group at (602) 671-3956 to schedule your appointment.

Patients who have missing teeth or major tooth and gum problems often have questions about dental implants. Implants are the modern solution for replacing teeth and are now often preferred over other solutions like dentures and bridges. Here are a few of the most common frequently asked questions about dental implants, answered. Having more knowledge of this dental treatment may inspire you to take action and call your Phoenix dentist to see if you’re a candidate for this procedure.

How Do Dental Implants Work?
Dental implants are designed to serve the same purpose as the root of a tooth. They are small titanium devices that resemble screws that are inserted into the bone tissue below the gumline. When the implant heals into the bone, which may take several months, an abutment and permanent crown are placed on the top. With a porcelain or ceramic crown, the implanted tooth is indistinguishable from your other teeth.

Why Are Dental Implants the Best Solution?
The main reason why dental implants are the ideal solution is that they are permanent. Once they’re installed, they’re no different than any of your other teeth in terms of function and appearance. They also help keep the bone tissue healthy and strong. When you get dentures or bridges, the bone tissue can degrade over time.

Who Can Get Dental Implants?
Only patients who have generally good dental health can get dental implants. Viable bone tissue is needed to ensure that the implants will stay rooted. That’s why it’s important to see a dentist for a tooth implant as early as possible. In some cases, a bone grafting procedure can help improve a patient’s chances of having a dental implant integrate successfully.

How Long Will Dental Implants Last?
For patients of a certain age, a dental implant has a good chance of lasting for a lifetime. The crown part of the implant can last for up to 15 years before it may need to be replaced. Seeing your dentist at least two times every year for professional cleanings and becoming meticulous about at-home dental care will ensure that the implant (and your other teeth) stays strong and healthy.
